Wellington, North Island
Leon was born in The Netherlands, but spent most of his life in the great Hutt Valley in Wellington,
New Zealand. He's been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember, and painted his first serious picture in acrylics when he was 14 years old.
He trained as a Graphic Designer, but is self-taught in Fine Arts. A lot of inspiration comes from his surroundings, and he prefers to paint realism, particularly New Zealand landscapes, flora and fauna, though he also paints abstracts, semi-abstracts and the occasional portrait.
Leon works mainly in acrylics and oils. He is a member of Hutt Art, the NZ Academy of Fine Arts, and Watercolour NZ and has paintings in many private collections throughout New Zealand as well as some in Australia, US and The Netherlands.
